Munich, state capital: Regional day - western Hoffest

Origin and quality of foodstuffs is becoming increasingly important for consumers. The “Regional Day” is intended to show the variety of opportunities to purchase regional specialties. Here there is a knowledge of the origin of the products and of where and how they are produced and processed. This creates confidence and promotes identification with the region. Short routes from the producer to the consumer also save resources for future generations and free up our roads from unnecessary traffic.

Since 2000, on the occasion of Regions’ Day, Munich, the state capital, has also organised this slightly smaller-scale suburban event to accompany Farmers’ Day. Every year, it takes place in the west of Munich , the part of the city with clearly the highest number of farms still operating within the urban area. Initially publicised as an urban district and theme event with names such as “Lochhausen Pasture-Fed Meat Festival” or “Aubing Potato Festival” and often in collaboration with the harvest festivals of the local church, the event has been unified as “Hoffest West” since 2006.

As a contrast to the Farmers’ Days, which are organised on a much larger scale, this is a traditional low-budget event, intended to be heavily supported by the local organisations, Agenda-21 groups and by church organisations. In this respect, our contribution here is of a supportive nature right from the start (press liaison organisation, placing posters and providing play facilities for children, etc.) with the objective of steadily withdrawing from the city council after our efforts have been successfully consolidated.
