As part of the restoration works, beginning in 1997, of the Central Isar works canal built in the 1920s, Bayernwerk Wasserkraft AG entrusted us with the manufacture and supply of standard parts for the public awareness work directed at the local population. The earthmoving and clearing works, which had even been classified as unavoidable by the Department of Nature Preservation, met with a particularly fiery reception because they were situated right in the centre of the northern Isar, i.e. in the vicinity of the nature preservation area already in the planning stage and known as the “NSG Isar meadows nature preservation area from the North of Munich to Achering”, and because they were also right next to the English Garden in Munich. The area was also known for the occurrence of severely endangered timber-inhabiting beetles surviving from the time of the primeval forests, which had occupied this area for over 7 000 years. As part of the PR project which included a public meeting, information line, construction site rangers etc., we were responsible for concept, text, layout, production and the building of a largely vandal-proof construction site nature trail which conformed to the customer’s design specifications and was based on a total of six themes. In close collaboration with the company’s communications management, we produced the draft versions of the press releases, gave presentations in public meetings, organised press conferences as part of monitoring the success of the environmental protection measures, etc.
